Agrigento

The town and the province of Agrigento show a rich archeological and historical fortune. Once called Akragas it is one of the major cultural sites in the Mediterranean, the greatest time in Agrigento’s history was that of the Greeks, whose culture here assumed its own highly scenic particular forms. It became a wealthy diocese in 1087 under the Normans. The most famous places of Agrigento are Pirandello’s house and the Valley of the temples; the temple of Concordia, the Temple of Juno Lacinia, the temple of Hercules, the temple of Jupiter seem to be eternally set in memory of that reached full growth on the mainland.
